Knowledge Change Action (KCA) - Five to Thrive

Knowledge Change Action (KCA) - Five to Thrive logo

Description

Five to Thrive is an attachment-based approach to support positive parenting. It aims to support parents in being able to 'tune in' to their children. It is useful for both parents and professionals.

The Five to Thrive approach has five "building blocks" that count equally towards parenting a healthy brain: Respond, Cuddle, Relax, Play, and Talk. These building blocks are drawn from research into the key attachment processes that forge bonds between young children and their carers. They are designed to support positive feedback processes and reinforce positive interactions between parents and their children.

Health visitors and early years providers in Northamptonshire have information about the Five to Thrive approach. Printed guides, posters, pop-up banners, and a range of age-specific supplements are available to support the implementation of Five to Thrive.

Knowledge Change Action (KCA)

Knowledge Change Action (KCA) believes that a 'whole system' approach is fundamental to creating sustained, systemic change. It therefore seeks to impact on organisational:

  • Culture (by developing shared knowledge)
  • Practice (by supporting the application of knowledge to practice)
  • Structures (by encouraging the use of mechanisms that support sustainability)
  • Review Systems (by ensuring the impact of KCA's input is evaluated)

KCA's co-creation approach ensures they work with commissioners to develop learning inputs that meet the needs of their learners. Their approach also promotes social enquiry, experiential learning, and skill development through connected learning. KCA achieve this by offering:

  • blended learning journeys that use face-to-face training
  • webinars
  • online web-tutorials
  • e-learning
  • online mentoring
  • associated resources to support learning, facilitate discussion and encourage practice sharing
