Positive Eye

Positive Eye is an education consultancy and training service for professionals who work with children and young people with visual impairment (VI). Their website provides free resources and practical tips. Their YouTube channel features ‘The Marvin Story Time Show,’ which is for families of children who are deafblind with additional complex needs. Keep up-to-date with all their latest news and resources by liking the Positive Eye Facebook page.

Visually Impaired Children Taking Action (VICTA) and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) have activities and ideas to access with your children. The RNIB also has the free Talking Books service, which gives you access to over 34,000 fiction and non-fiction books for adults and children.

Touch Typing

Children and young people with vision impairment can practice their touch typing skills using online resources.

Other free typing programmes are available. For example, the BBC have a free typing programme called Dance Mat Typing (for KS2).

Braille Drawing

Paths to Literacy have fun, free braille-art patterns for those with access to a brailler. Visit Paths to Literacy  and filter the topics by “braille drawings.”

Please contact your Qualified Teacher of Children and Young People with Vision Impairment (QTVI) for further advice and support.
