Description
Northamptonshire Police's Disability Access Services provide a range of accessible services to assist people with disabilities to contact them and to keep safe in the community.
Dedicated Text Messaging Service
The text messaging service is for anyone who has a hearing impairment, anyone unable to talk over the telephone, or anyone who is deafblind.
Users can report non-urgent incidents or make non-urgent enquiries via text message. The Force Control Room (FCR) will also respond via SMS text message. This service is open 24 hours a day.
Sign Video Service
The Live Video Relay Service for users of British Sign Language. This service is not available at weekends at present.
Users connect to the service through the communication page on the Northamptonshire Police Website. Look for the 'Sign Video' logo. Instructions on how to use the service are on the site.
Keep Safe Card Scheme
The Keep Safe card is for anyone in Northamptonshire with a learning disability, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or any other disability that could make them vulnerable when out and about.
Users who sign up to the scheme are given a 'Keep Safe' card, which they can carry with them whenever they are out and about. The card is designed to make people more aware of their personal safety, to encourage the reporting of crime (especially hate crime), and to encourage people to seek help if they need it.
The Keep Safe Card will also help those providing assistance (such as shop keepers, librarians and the police) to access support for the card-holder, and how to make them feel more safe. To apply for a Keep Safe card you will need to complete an application form. You can download a form here: Keep Safe Scheme.
When you have been accepted onto the scheme you will be sent your 'Keep Safe' welcome pack.
