Northampton Door-to-Door Service (NDDS)

The Northampton Door-to-Door Service (NDDS) provides transport for residents in the Borough of Northampton who cannot access public transport. This might be because of impaired mobility or disability. The service enables otherwise housebound residents to enjoy freedom and independence in their daily lives.

Trained and caring drivers, along with a fleet of specially-adapted minibuses can accommodate both wheelchairs and scooters. They offer weekly trips to most major supermarkets, transport to appointments and day care as well as visiting family and friends.

The service is also beneficial to carers and families who (with limited resources) may struggle to get their loved ones some level of mobility or give them respite from their caring duties.

NDDS can also arrange transport for regular lunch clubs, outings to garden and shopping centres too.

Memberships:

• Basic Demand Responsive Service (DRS): Free for non-assisted travel where the minibus will arrive at the appointed time, in a place nearest to the passengers’ address. They will wait for a few minutes and, if the passenger does not appear, will move on to the next pickup.  These journeys can be booked one day in advance.
• The Full NDDS Membership: Available at an annual cost of £60.  The drivers will pick up from the member’s address (or specified location), help them to and from the minibus, assist with shopping bags and other goods on and off the bus and to the front door if required. Full NDDS membership users get priority booking for the bus and, in addition, can book a Shopping Service and Lunch Club outings.

Fares:

If you have a bus pass, all travel is free after 9:30am. If it's earlier than 9:30am (or you don't have a bus pass), there will be a small charge.

As a registered bus service, fares are calculated based on miles travelled:

• 0-2 mile radius = £5.70
• 2–4 mile radius = £7.50
• Over 4 miles = £8.95
