The Northamptonshire Baby Room Project - NNC and WNC

The Northamptonshire Baby Room Project is run by educational psychologists from the local authorities. It aims to raise the quality of babies' experiences by creating fun, sustainable, and exciting training projects that enlighten practitioners (and parents / carers) about the brain development of babies. The training draws on cutting-edge research and the experiences of Early Years practitioners and parents.

Training Sessions

The Baby Room Project tracks infant brain development through three themed sessions. Each session balances information with fun activities - creating resources for people to take away. The sessions provide a framework that helps people develop (and be creative about) the ways they can enhance the connections that are being made in the infant's brain, through play and interaction.

• Session 1: Early Infant Brain Development
• Session 2: Infant Emotional Development
• Session 3: Playing and Laughing

Training for Parents / Carers:

Parents/carers accessing universal services through children's centres in Daventry, Towcester, Northampton, Corby, Wellingborough, or Kettering can be referred to the Baby Room Project Parents' Courses. Referrals are made by Early Years practitioners and professionals (such as health visitors) who think the parent/s may benefit from an increased understanding of infant-parent relationships and their impact on the infant's development.

Training for Professionals:

• Early Years practitioners in private, voluntary, and maintained Early Years settings.
• Professionals working with families with infants under two years-old.
• Universal services practitioners.
• Targeted services professionals.
• Social workers.
• Foster carers and supervising social workers.
