Description

Animal Focused provides canine-assisted education, interventions, and therapy for children and adults. Clients may have special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) or mental health needs. It's run by a qualified teacher and animal behaviourist.   Animal Focused works with individuals and small groups. Sessions can occur in schools, NHS settings, care settings, or clients' homes. It uses an assessed and insured therapy dog.   Animal Focused works with the client and their parents, carers, and support teams.   Therapeutic goals might include:
  • increased confidence
  • increased self-esteem
  • improved emotional regulation
  • reduced anxiety
  • increased engagement
Where the situation allows, sessions may include more formal educational goals. These might include developing confidence in reading, spelling, and mathematics. The presence of the therapy dog can reduce anxiety and increase focus.
