Description

Fairfields School is a special primary school for 120 pupils aged 3-11 years in West Northamptonshire. It is run by the Local Authority.

Pupils have EHC Plans that stating their primary (main) needs are -

  • Cognition and Learning Needs:

i.e. Severe Learning Disabilities (SLD) i.e. Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)

Pupils may also have the following secondary (other) needs -

  • Communication and Interaction Needs:

i.e. Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) i.e. Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

  • Sensory and/or Physical Needs

All pupils will have an Education, Health, and Care (EHC) Plan. The Local Authority will have identified their needs as requiring placement at Fairfields School.

Hydrotherapy Pool

Fairfields has a hydrotherapy pool, staffed with their own teacher and lifeguard. The pool is 9 meters long and 6 meters wide, and is kept at 33 Celsius. It is currently used to support the physical development of children with complex needs who have access to a weekly swimming slot. Physiotherapists may also carry out hydrotherapy with individual children. WNC commission warm water swimming for children with physical difficulties from mainstream settings.

Conductive Education

Conductive Education (CE) is a system of training for people with motor disorders (especially children), which aims to reduce their dependence on artificial aids.

Fairfields are very proud that Conductive Education is a specialism of their school. Indeed, they are one of the few schools in the country able to offer CE to children aged 0-4 with physical difficulties.

The school runs a free 'Conductive School for Parents' group every Tuesday (during term-times), 10.30am-12noon. Bring your own lunch. For further information, please call Mrs Beni Constantinou on 01604 714777 or email [email protected].

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC )

Fairfields School is commissioned by West Northants Council to provide the AAC service for Northamptonshire.
