Employment opportunities at elections
Contents
Rates of Pay
The rates of pay will vary and be dependent of the job role, the hours of work and the type of election or referendum that is being undertaken. We intend to publish the rate of pay for each specific role in the weeks prior to the election/referendum. Additionally, some roles include car mileage payments.
Deductions and Mileage Claims
Payments are subject to your HMRC income tax bracket but are free of National Insurance payments (The canvasser role is subject to both your HMRC income tax bracket and National Insurance contribution rates). Mileage is paid tax free. Please note, we are unable to reimburse other modes of transport to/from your contracted place of work. For example, taxi fees. Mileage is per vehicle and not per person. Therefore, if you are car sharing, only the driver of the vehicle may submit a mileage claim.
Payment date
Payment for your work will be dependent on when the election or referendum occurs in the month. Local Elections are normally held at the beginning of May at four yearly intervals with all payments being made towards the end of June. Payments are made directly into your bank account. Exact arrangements will be detailed in your contract of employment.
