The Coronation Service will take place at Westminster Abbey in London on Saturday 6 May 2023, where His Majesty King Charles III will be crowned alongside Camilla, Queen Consort.

Across the Coronation Weekend, there will be further opportunities for people to come together in celebration of the historic occasion.

Plans for the Coronation weekend

Saturday 6 May

Coronation Service in Westminster Abbey, coronation procession, Buckingham Palace balcony appearance by members of the royal family.

Northampton Town Council will be hosting a Coronation Celebration Community Festival from 10am-4pm on Guildhall Road. Applications for performers, stalls and sponsors are now open (information further down the page).

Sunday 7 May

Coronation concert

Coronation concert and lightshow at Windsor Castle produced, staged, and broadcast live by the BBC and bringing together global music icons and contemporary stars in celebration of the historic occasion.

Big Lunch

The Coronation Big Lunch, at which neighbours and communities are invited to share food and fun together, will take place across the country between Saturday 6 and Monday 8 May.

Residents are invited to join us for a Big Lunch and After Party at Delapré Abbey on the Sunday from midday to 10:30pm. A host of performers will take to the stage during the event, while the National Coronation Concert is broadcast live on a big screen. More information and tickets coming soon.

Monday 8 May

Big Help Out

On Monday 8 May 2023, members of the public will be invited to take part in The Big Help Out, which will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas and create a lasting volunteering legacy from the Coronation Weekend.

Stalls and sponsorship

Applications are now open for stall holders, performers and sponsors for the Coronation Celebration Community Festival on Saturday, 6 May and Coronation Big Lunch and After Party on Sunday, 7 May.

Businesses are invited to benefit from the marketing and PR opportunities offered by playing a key role in local celebrations for the Coronation. 

Plans are under way to organise a packed weekend of activities across West Northamptonshire on the bank holiday from 6 to 8 May, including a Coronation Celebration Community Festival in Northampton Town Centre on the Saturday and a showcase Coronation Big Lunch and After Party at Delapré Abbey on the Sunday.

The free events, will feature live music and arts performances and the chance to watch the national coronation celebrations live on big screens, promises to be the place to be for families to enjoy the festivities – and businesses are encouraged to get involved through a range of fantastic sponsorship opportunities.

West Northamptonshire Council and Northampton Town Council have put together a range of packages to help businesses wishing to promote their product or brand, network with potential customers, or secure high-quality product placement opportunities at the event.

Please note there are limited numbers of packages available, delivered on a first-come, first-served basis. Please get in touch to discuss any bespoke packages.

A sponsorship of £3,000 gives you access to our full range of sponsorship benefits, including all of the above plus:

  • Large logo placement on printed promotional materials (A5 flyers, A4 posters)
  • Prominent brand/logo placement in event programmes
  • Prominent advertisement banner placement at events – to be provided by sponsor
  • Brand/logo placement on digital stage graphics

Coronation street parties, road closures, and funding

If you would like to organise a street party with friends and neighbours over the Coronation weekend to celebrate the Coronation you will need to  apply to hold a street party and apply for a temporary road closure.

Applications for road closures should be made by Monday 27 March 2023. There is no charge for Coronation commemoration road closures from 6 to 8 May 2023.

Funding is available for up to £10,000 for events and activities through the National Lottery Awards for All programme and community groups can apply. The deadline for funding applications will be 19 February 2023.

Nominate your Coronation Champion

Volunteers from all backgrounds and communities across the UK can be nominated for an award across 8 different categories. What’s more, some of the volunteers will be invited to attend events taking place to celebrate Their Majesties’ Coronation such as the Windsor Castle Coronation Concert or a Coronation Garden Party.
