UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF)

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025.
The fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, as well as people and skills.

We in West Northamptonshire have been allocated a total of £5.4m through the UKSPF. This is divided across numerous interventions based on local consultation and data analysis to have the greatest level of benefit for our community.

Abington Active Travel Scheme: New and improved pedestrian crossing facilities addressing longstanding demand/safety concerns, project is soon to begin its first stage of work after completing the initial public concept design. Further development and details of this project will be available in early spring.

British Cycling Partnership Ltd: This Partnership aims to increase cycling across West Northamptonshire, as well as along the Abington Active Travel Scheme by promoting cycling as a method of transport for commuting and short journeys - this will include bespoke events and training that will benefit the local communities.

Voluntary and Community Sector Grants - Grants from £100 to £1,500 are available for Voluntary and Community Sector projects to address local community need and support the Council’s vision to make West Northamptonshire a great place to live, work, visit and thrive.

Northamptonshire Energy Saving Scheme – This project provides free, independent and confidential advice and casework for people struggling to afford household bills.  This includes advice on debts, benefit checks and advice on energy bills.

Northampton Partnership Homes Household Energy Scheme - A project to empower households to realise the instant and long-lasting benefits of improved home energy efficiency and supporting households to combat fuel poverty and climate change. 

Feasibility studies to inform activities to support local communities.

Build Your Business - Dedicated business support available to every business within West Northamptonshire from pre-start up’s to existing enterprises. This support will include a rich variety of webinars, workshops and one-to-one advice sessions. Delivered in partnership with the Business and Intellectual Property Centre, this scheme also includes start-up grants of £2,000.

Towards a Net Zero (TANZ) West Northants - TANZ West Northants is a two-year Net Zero project designed to empower local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across West Northants to understand and embrace the concept of “Net Zero.” Our mission is clear: to raise awareness of net zero and guide businesses toward concrete actions that will advance West Northamptonshire Council’s target of achieving Net Zero by 2045.

Support Business Growth & Innovation - A comprehensive support package including non-financial support and revenue grants. This scheme is to support businesses in West Northants with the greatest potential for scale and encouraging innovation.

Supporting Businesses Decarbonisation Fund - Including non-financial support through workshops & other mediums to help businesses develop their decarbonisation plans, then offering grants to support their decarbonisation ambitions (grants to be revenue and capital).

Tenders for these grant schemes have now closed and a delivery partner will be announced soon.

South East Midlands Careers Hub - In partnership with the South East Midlands Careers Hub, this scheme will support employers to engage with the future workforce, learn the benefits of offering different types of employment such as apprenticeships and bridge the gap between education and employment. 

Vulcan Creatives - This exclusive opportunity features everything you need to get your creative enterprise ready for success – and so much more. With tangible resources, forward-thinking advice, and cutting-edge tools, Vulcan Creatives is the perfect accelerator programme for any up-and-coming Northamptonshire business. Offering dedicated support and kickstart grants, this scheme has your start-up covered.

Feasibility studies to inform activities to support local businesses

Further details and launch for this scheme will be available early 2024.

  • bespoke support to help residents who are economically inactive (not in work and not actively seeking work) to address barriers to employment
  • tailored support to help people in employment, who are not supported by mainstream provision to address barriers to accessing education and training courses
  • specific support to address local skills needs, including technical and vocational qualifications and courses relevant to local areas

Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF)

The Rural England Prosperity Fund supports the aims of the government’s Levelling Up White Paper and Future Farming Programme. It funds capital projects for small businesses and community infrastructure specifically those from rural areas, and funding is divided between two priority areas.

West Northamptonshire Rural Business Grant – This programme is to support businesses in the most rural parts of West Northants to diversify and grow. We have allocated over £820,000 from our Rural England Prosperity Fund allocation for capital grants to support businesses located in Defra’s designated rural areas within West Northamptonshire.

Businesses will be required to provide up to 50% of equal match-funding to access grants between £2,500 and £100,000. We have appointed Ngage Solutions Ltd to manage the Rural Business Grants programme.

Rural Transport Scheme - Combining REPF and WNC funding, a new £950k grants scheme to create new and support existing community transport initiatives in West Northants, as well as support the expansion of current grant funded transport projects and services. 

Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Organisations operating within the geographical area of West Northamptonshire and the Town and Parish Councils areas are invited to submit an expression of interest form for this Community Grant Fund. This grant programme is now closed and projects who qualify for the grant will be notified early March 2024.

Multiply

Multiply was launched as part of the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) programme by the Department for Education. It provides a range of courses to support residents aged 19+ to improve their numeracy skills and feel confident with numbers in every aspect of life. 

These courses are set to cater for varying degrees of ability including beginners and those who want to gain qualifications like a GCSE or Functional Skills Qualifications.

All courses are free for individual residents in West Northamptonshire aged 19 and over, ranging from flexible online courses to one-to-one mentoring, for those who want to learn when or how they want.

The Northampton Social Enterprise Development Fund (NSEDF)

The Northampton Social Enterprise Development Fund is funded by Northampton Forward and supported by West Northamptonshire Council. It is a community-driven initiative that aims to provide funding and support for local social entrepreneurs to maximise the impact of Northampton’s diverse social enterprise sector.

The fund offers 2 types of investments:

Social Enterprise Start-up Investment - between £1,000 and £5,000

The Social Enterprise Business Start-up investment funding is designed to support the creation and initial trading model for social entrepreneurs. It’s targeted at individuals who have a business idea which addresses a social, environmental or community issue.

Social Enterprise Build It Up Investment - between £1,000 and £5,000

The Social Enterprise Build It Up Grant is targeted at social entrepreneurs who have an existing, tested social enterprise business and want to grow its trading opportunity and social impact.
