Apply for a dangerous wild animal licence

If you want to keep any animal on the dangerous wild animals list you will need a licence.

Dangerous wild animal licences are valid for 2 years from the date of issue, and must be renewed before the expiry date if you want to continue to keep the animal(s) named on the licence.

The person making the application must be the person who owns and possesses, or proposes to own and possess, the animal to which the application applies.

Copies of the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 can be purchased from Her Majesty's Stationery Office.

Cost

Dangerous wild animal licence fees are split between an application fee and a fee on grant of a licence.

The complete fee must be paid at the time of application and the grant fee will be refunded in the event that a licence is not granted.
