Local Offer: The Disabled Children’s Register and West SEND News - WNC logo

Description

The Disabled Children's Register (DCR) is a database of young people (aged 0 to 25) living in West Northamptonshire with disabilities.

The duty of local authorities to carry out the "maintenance of a register of disabled children" is part of the Children's Act 1989 (chapter 41, Schedule 2, Part I).

The DCR only includes information about disabled children that parents or carers supply voluntarily. The local authority does not include children on the database without parental consent.

In West Northamptonshire, the Disabled Children's Register used to be called the Special Needs Index (SNIX).

What is the Purpose of the Disabled Children's Register?

The DCR helps the local authority plan services for children with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).

Who Will Have Access to Your Child's Information?

Statistical information will be provided to commissioning managers in the Northamptonshire Children's Trust and West Northamptonshire Council. They will use it to identify gaps in service provision and plan services. Information provided for these purposes never identifies individual children.

The DCR registration updates your child's existing local authority record. Forms are processed by the Local Offer Team.

How to Join the Disabled Children's Register

Complete this online form: Join the Disabled Children's Register.

The DCR Newsletter

The Local Offer team creates a newsletter for families on the Disabled Children's Register. It currently comes out three times a year. 'West SEND News' provides information about:

  • special educational needs and disability services
  • resources
  • training
  • early years
  • groups, clubs and activities

The print version of the newsletter is one of the ways the Local Offer is made available for people who are not online.

Only families on the DCR can receive the printed newsletter. However, there is an email version that is open to everyone (including professionals). To sign up, visit Subscribe to West SEND News.
