Description
New Leaf Learning is a calm and caring place for primary aged children. It offers nature-based and trauma-informed support to help children feel safe. It also works with parents or carers and up to two members of the child’s school staff.
The setting is on a working farm in a peaceful woodland area at the Courteenhall Estate. Children spend time outdoors as they rebuild their confidence in learning and relationships. The activities are designed to help children feel safe, calm, and ready to learn. This can help children who struggle to access (or thrive within) mainstream educational environments.
The TRUST programme is designed for children with different learning needs, mental health needs, or adverse childhood experiences. Parents or carers are asked to attend a two-hour first session and a one-hour final session.
TRUST Programme
The main programme is called the TRUST Programme. It focuses on:
- Trying
- Resilience
- Understanding and empathy
- Self-regulation
- Teamwork
The programme uses neuroscience, attachment-aware practice, sensory-informed approaches, and outdoor learning. It helps children build confidence and improve skills like focus, self-control, and problem-solving. Staff understand that behaviour is a way of communicating. They work closely with children, families, and schools to make sure each child feels safe, supported, and able to succeed.
Children take part in many activities, such as den-building, using tools, woodwork, exploring nature, and caring for animals. They also play team games, enjoy sensory play, cook over a fire, and work on problem-solving tasks. There is also time for movement and quiet reflection. All activities are adapted to suit each child’s needs and interests.
New Leaf Learning has earned a Quality Badge for Learning Outside the Classroom. This means it offers safe, high-quality, and valuable outdoor learning experiences.
New Leaf Learning is a registered charity (no. 1202923).
