Cabinet approves new Corporate Parenting Strategy for West Northamptonshire
11 March 2026

The West Northamptonshire Corporate Parenting Strategy has been approved by Cabinet. Running from 2026 to 2029, the strategy has been shaped with the help of children and young people, and sets out how West Northamptonshire Council, Northamptonshire Children’s Trust and partners will work together with the same care, ambition and responsibility you would expect from any good parent.
The vision at the heart of the strategy is for every child and young adult in the Council’s care to grow up safe, healthy, resilient and empowered to live their best lives. To achieve this, the strategy focuses on four priority areas:
- Develop resilience – building confidence, life skills and strong relationships
- Enjoy good health and wellbeing – ensuring physical, emotional and mental health needs are met
- Fulfil potential – supporting success in education, training and employment
- Live safe, be safe – providing safe, stable and supportive homes and communities
These priorities reflect what young people have said matters most to them, including having a stable home, feeling heard in decisions about their lives, and being supported as they move towards adulthood.
The Corporate Parenting Board will oversee delivery of the strategy, ensuring strong accountability and partnership working across education, health, housing, the voluntary sector and other services involved in supporting children and young people.
The strategy was approved at West Northamptonshire Council’s Cabinet meeting last week.
“This strategy sets out a clear and determined commitment to every child in our care and every care-experienced young person that together with our partners we will deliver the four key ambitions to ensure they receive the support they need.Cllr Michael Stratton, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education on the Council
“As Corporate Parents, we have the responsibility to provide the stability, encouragement and opportunities that any loving parent would want for their own child. We want our children and young people to feel safe, heard and valued, and to know that their aspirations matter.
“It was essential that this strategy was shaped by young people themselves. Their honesty, insight and strength have challenged us to raise our standards and strengthen our support. We are determined to turn their voices into meaningful action, ensuring they are empowered to thrive, achieve and lead fulfilling, independent lives.”
