Artist Jim Moir, aka Vic Reeves, poses with some of his footwear art

Northampton Museum and Art Gallery are very proud to announce that Vic Reeves, otherwise known as artist, Jim Moir, will be exclusively presenting his solo show, entitled ‘Romans, Daisies, Ones and Twos’ within the newly refurbished Central Hall.

Jim, working with his agent and manager, Michael Hogben, approached the renowned shoe museum, to showcase some of his most recent work due to a shared love of footwear, a subject that features frequently within his extensive range of works.

His work has been described by artists Jake and Dinos Chapman as "able to command our laughter as a purgative, to encourage the viewer to leak at both ends."  - Baker, Lindsay (22 June 2002). "Call Me Dada" -  TheGuardian.com.

Moir said: "I have loved shoes since I can remember and still love them. I have so many pairs they have their own space!

"I’m excited to come to Northampton and think it’s a wonderful place to show my shoe art collection along with some other paintings I’ve done recently."

Cllr Adam Brown, Deputy Leader of West Northamptonshire Council and Cabinet Member for housing, culture and leisure, said: "This is exactly the kind of event that Northampton Museum deserves.

"It is an honour to know that the reputation of our shoe collection attracts well known artists for collaboration.

"We are very excited, and I know the people of Northamptonshire and beyond, will be encouraged to visit."

Jim’s work has been reputed as Dada-esque, surreal and sometimes macabre, featuring varied mediums such as but not limited to, painting, ceramics and lino prints.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 23rd July until 14th August with no admission charge. All the works featured will be available for sale. For further information, please contact the museum directly.

The museum closed between 2017 and 2021 for a major £6.7m expansion project. The new museum reopened in July 2021.
