Residents urged to book tip visits early ahead of busy Easter holidays

24 March 2026

Residents are being reminded to book their visits to local recycling centres as demand increases ahead of the Easter school break.

Visits to West Northamptonshire Council’s sites have surged in recent weeks, helped along by the recent spell of good weather. Many residents are already tackling their first garden tidy‑ups of the year, leading to a noticeable increase in green waste.

Easter consistently sees the highest demand for tip visits, driven by both the timing of the school holidays and household spring‑cleaning. Demand increases not only over the Easter weekend but also on the weekends leading up to it.

Cllr Nigel Stansfield, Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Waste, said: “We want everyone’s visit to be as smooth as possible.

“Booking in advance is quick and simple, helps us manage traffic, reduce queues and keep everyone safe on site.

“The sunnier weather always brings more visitors to our recycling centres, and this past weekend we saw particularly high levels of green waste.

“With Easter approaching – our busiest time of the year – we’re encouraging people to plan ahead and be aware that slots can fill quickly during the holiday period.

“If you’re thinking about a clear‑out over Easter, it’s a good idea to check availability early so you can choose a time that works for you. Bookings can easily be changed or cancelled later if needed.”

Since its introduction the booking system has helped smooth the peaks in demand, and whilst we expect weekends to remain the busiest periods, there is normally availability to use the service during the week.

Key things to consider:

  • Book early – particularly for the Easter bank holiday weekend, when demand is at its highest
  • It takes only a couple of minutes to book, and plans can be changed – you can cancel or rearrange your appointment easily if your schedule or the weather changes
  • Please do not arrive without a booking – during busy periods, visitors who haven’t booked may be asked to return at another time
  • Bring your booking confirmation with you
  • Only bring what you can unload yourself, and pre‑sort your items where possible
