Specialist SEND Teacher Team – supporting inclusive education in West Northamptonshire

Specialist SEND Teacher Team

The Specialist SEND Teacher Team is made up of qualified teachers with specialist knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

We work with all primary and secondary schools in West Northamptonshire. Our role is to support school staff to strengthen inclusive practice and to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

What we do

We help schools develop whole-school approaches to SEND.

Our work focuses on building skills and confidence across school teams. We do not work directly with individual pupils and we do not provide support for Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) applications.

Our offer

  • SEND audits: Collaborative reviews of a school’s SEND provision with senior leaders and staff. This includes learning walks, action planning and follow-up support where appropriate.
  • Advice and guidance: Support with the graduated approach, including assess–plan–do–review cycles.
  • Training: Sessions to help schools develop whole-school SEND and inclusion strategies.
  • Ordinarily Available Provision: Support to embed inclusive, high-quality classroom strategies and interventions that should be available to all pupils without additional funding or statutory plans. This includes classroom adaptations, adaptive teaching and universal approaches that improve access for every learner.
  • Therapeutic Thinking: Support to embed Therapeutic Thinking, an approach that focuses on understanding feelings and experiences behind behaviour. We help schools apply Therapeutic Thinking within their SEND practice to support emotional wellbeing and reduce exclusions.
  • SENDCO support: Coordination of SENDCO network meetings and regular updates through the termly SEND Bulletin.
