Have Your Say on the Draft Freight Action Plan

Overview
West Northamptonshire is at the heart of the UK's freight and logistics network. Every day, thousands of freight vehicles support local businesses, create jobs and connect our area to national and international supply chains. While freight plays an important role in our economy, it can also create challenges for local communities, including the use of unsuitable roads by Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), parking pressures, congestion, safety concerns and environmental impacts.
To address these opportunities and challenges, we have developed a draft Freight Action Plan. The plan sets out a vision and a programme of actions to improve how freight moves into, through and out of West Northamptonshire. It aims to support economic growth, reduce impacts on communities and help the freight industry prepare for the future.
Our vision and actions
Our draft Vision is to shape West Northamptonshire’s freight network so that goods move safely, efficiently and sustainably, supporting local communities, businesses and the environment now and in the future. We have identified 26 proposed actions for delivery over the next five years covering area including:
- Better network management with appropriate routing of HGVs
- Reviewing weight restrictions and trialling enforcement
- Developing plans for future HGV parking sites
- Working with industry to achieve joint objectives
- Developing electric light and heavy goods vehicle charging sites
- Developing the future role of autonomous delivery options
- Creating a joint freight research programme with University of Northampton
Why your say matters
Before we finalise the action plan, we want to hear your views on the proposed actions and where you think the Council should focus its efforts over the next five years. We welcome feedback from residents, businesses, all interested parties and statutory consultees.
