Home-Start Northampton supports families with young children to deal with whatever life throws at them. At least one child in the house will be under five years old. The charity supports parents to improve their confidence and build better lives for their children.
The benefits of support include:
- improved health
- improved well-being
- better family relationships
Home-Start volunteers offer families regular one-to-one support, friendship, and practical help. It aims to prevent family crises and breakdowns. Support is provided in the families' own homes. Sessions are usually 2-3 hours a week.
Home-Start's support is informal, friendly, and confidential. It's delivered by trained and committed home-visiting volunteers. All volunteers are parents themselves or have parenting experience. The support is tailor-made to meet the needs of the family. Support usually lasts up to six months.
Home-Start believes that children need a happy and secure childhood. It also believes that parents play a crucial role in giving their children a good start in life and helping them achieve their full potential. Home-Start supports parents to strengthen their relationships with their children. It also helps parents increase their links to the local community.
