Breaks-Away Respite Services

Breaks-Away Respite Services (BARS) offers trips, short breaks, and holidays for adults with disabilities. These activities can be paid for through personal budgets or direct payments. They also give families and carers a break from their caring role.

People can choose where they want to go and how long they want to stay. They can go with friends or go on their own and meet new people.

BARS offers many different activities and trips. These help people have fun, make friends, build confidence, and learn new skills. Previous trips have included Centre Parcs, Disneyland Paris, zoos, safari parks, museums, theatres, and holiday resorts.

People who use the service can suggest ideas for new trips and activities. Safe and suitable ideas are then shared with families and carers.

Before someone joins BARS for the first time, a team member visits them at home. This helps the team understand their needs and make sure they can provide the right support. Keeping people safe is a top priority.

BARS also runs regular social events where people can meet the team, ask questions, and get to know other people who use the service.

BARS has an adapted holiday caravan at Caister on Sea (near Great Yarmouth). It is suitable for wheelchair users and people with mobility needs. The caravan can be used for respite breaks or family holidays. It is available to people of all ages and support needs.
