Toe By Toe Ltd

Toe by Toe is a small, family-owned publishing company based in West Yorkshire. It creates and sells learning materials for people who find reading and spelling difficult (especially those with dyslexia).

Their main publication (also called Toe by Toe) is highly-structured multi-sensory reading manual. It uses phonics to help students learn how to read English with confidence.

Toe by Toe was first published in 1994 after 25 years of research by Keda Cowling, a primary school teacher. Since then, it's been used in over 20,000 schools and in more than 100 countries around the world.

Toe by Toe also offers two other books to help with literacy. Stride Ahead is for students who can read words but have trouble understanding what they read. Stareway to Spelling helps learners improve their spelling of common words.

All three manuals are designed to be simple and easy to use. No special training is needed, so teachers, teaching assistants, parents, and carers can all use them. This matches Keda Cowling’s belief that everyone should have the chance to learn to read, no matter their background.
