Educational Psychology Service, Targeted Mental Health in Schools (TaMHS) - WNC

Northamptonshire Targeted Mental Health in Schools (TaMHS) is a programme for building capacity within schools through training, support and introducing new programmes and approaches to better meet the mental health needs of all children.

The programme can be used at universal, targeted and more specialist levels, including with:

• systemic work with parents
• staff
• locality agencies

By meeting mental health needs in this way, a sustainable positive impact can be achieved for:

• children’s mental health
• attainments
• bullying
• attendance
• exclusions

Whole school approach

A process of consultation and audit can be commissioned through the school’s existing SLA with their Educational Psychology Service to develop mental health provision in the school.

An educational psychologist can work with school staff to identify areas of strength and those that could be developed to further support the mental health and wellbeing of:

• children
• young people
• school staff
• the wider school community

Findings from this process then feed into a bespoke co-produced action plan which the school implement with support, review and evaluation from their Educational Psychology Service, as needed. By developing mental health provision in this way, schools can apply for and achieve TaMHS Accreditation.
