Description
The Children's Physiotherapy Service has a child-centred approach to assessment and treatment. As Physiotherapists we work with the child/young person, their family, and others supporting them to encourage each individual to get the most out of their lives, and to fully develop to their potential.
Paediatric physiotherapists have specialist skills, expert knowledge, and experience of child development and childhood disabilities.
The Children's Physiotherapy Service provides services for children aged 0-19 with a range of developmental, neurological, neuromuscular, or musculoskeletal difficulties. Conditions treated may include:
- Cystic fibrosis
- Down syndrome
- Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)
- Congenital conditions
- Neurological conditions
- Neuromuscular conditions
- Orthopaedic conditions
- Musculoskeletal problems (in children aged up to 8 years-old)
How to Access the Service
Referrals are accepted from healthcare professionals and school SENCos via the Referral Management Centre (RMC). Please note: any child with a musculoskeletal problem aged 8+ should be referred to the Adult Outpatient Physiotherapy Services.
The children's physiotherapists have provided information for school staff and a school resource pack. Schools can request the pack from the Local Offer team by e-mail. [email protected]
