Small society lottery or raffle

Fundraising, raffles, and lotteries are all forms of gambling and you must follow the rules for the type of lottery you plan to run, otherwise you may be breaking the law.

There are various types of lottery some of which are dealt with by the Gambling Commission.

Licences for small society lotteries are dealt with by us, these are lotteries which

  • sell less than £20,000 in tickets from a single lottery, or less than £250,000 in a calendar  year
  • you plan to sell tickets to the public in a lottery, outside of an event or private club

The licence cost £40 but there’s also an annual fee of £20 in order to keep the registration running.

You will also need to supply a return from your lottery or raffle
