The PA will need to have patience as the gentleman’s mood can be up and down and preferably have experience, but not essential. Personal care will be part of the PA’s role also and this will be discussed further at interview.

The PA will be supporting the gentleman with social activities and hobbies which will include bowling, going for walks, visiting parks, coffee/meals out.

Additional employment information

The role requires close personal contact with an individual who is extremely vulnerable to the risk of infection and disease transmission. I am a gentleman living in the NN3 area with my family. I have a condition called Ataxia which affects my co-ordination. I’m at high risk of falls due to reduced mobility. I can’t feed myself, use a pen, brush my teeth (anything that involves co-ordination). My speech is slightly slurred, but you can still understand me.

I would like to employ a male carer. My Personal Assistant (PA) will also need to like dogs as I have a dog at home who is a great companion to me.

My Personal Assistant (PA) will need to be chatty and a positive person as I need someone around me who is upbeat as my mood can dip and I can become quiet.

Main duties

  • support and help with getting dressed in the morning
  • support and help with making my bed - emptying commode
  • to make breakfast, e.g. cereal and tea and then support to feed to me - brush my teeth shave
  • to support and assist with exercises given to me by my Physio
  • to get out in the fresh air, pushing me in my wheelchair around the village
  • to support and help me with light gardening
  • to prepare and feed me my lunch

I will be having a peg inserted soon, so my Personal Assistant (PA) will have to be comfortable feeding me through this occasionally

A relief personal assistant is sought to assist the lady to get out in the community more, helping her with social and physical activities such as shopping and gardening and to escort if/when short term breaks are required.

The lady occasionally uses careline back up and the relief PA will need to be on the emergency contacts for this service. However, the lady uses GP out of hours service and if at all possible goes through the SDEC as recently suggested by her GP.

Main duties

  • to help her with personal care
  • to check if medication was taken
  • to help her with light household tasks
  • to support with meal preparation
  • to support her with paperwork
  • to support with any other reasonable task that the employer may request
  • to accompany her on medical appointments, so a car owner is preferable
  • PA must be committed to the role of a Personal Assistant
