Community comes together to transform Kings Heath’s Park Square
20 March 2026

Local businesses and residents have joined forces in a powerful show of local pride to refresh and revitalise Park Square in Kings Heath, marking the first phase of a wider regeneration project led by West Northamptonshire Council (WNC).
The Kings Heath Partnership - a group of organisations with a vested interest in the area facilitated by WNC’s Community Development and Community Safety teams - has been working collaboratively to improve the area and address local priorities. Park Square was identified as a space in need of renewal, and with support from across the partnership, permission was secured to repaint and revitalise it as a community led improvement project.
Thanks to a generous donation of materials, volunteers and expertise from Travis Perkins, along with investment from WNC’s Communities team, the vision for Park Square has now been brought to life. On the community action days, partners including Kings Heath Primary School, The Church on the Heath, Kings Heath Residents Association, Free2Talk, Sports4Fitness, The County Toy Library, the neighbourhood policing team, WNC Park Rangers, Bees Be Happy community garden, and local councillors Sally Keeble and John East joined forces with residents to transform the space.
Support also came from Veolia, who completed a deep clean prior to the event, and local businesses Londis, who provided refreshments, and Our Favourites takeaway, who ensured volunteers were fuelled with a hot lunch.
Across the two days, around 50 people took part by painting walls, constructing and planting raised beds, and helping create a more welcoming environment for the Kings Heath community. The hands-on involvement from residents and partners demonstrated a strong sense of local pride, with the results speaking for themselves.
“The Kings Heath Partnership brings together organisations and residents who all share a commitment to improving their local neighbourhood. This project is the perfect example of what can be achieved when partners, residents and the local community work together. It’s been inspiring to see so many people giving their time to make this shared space brighter, safer and more welcoming for everyone.”Cllr Charlie Hastie, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities at WNC
This activity marks the first phase of a broader regeneration plan, with additional funding from the WNC Graffiti Taskforce and local art group Lemonpop consulting with young people to develop community-led graphic art for the space. The pillars surrounding the square will soon feature inspirational words and positive messages chosen by local young people to uplift visitors and reflect the creativity of the community.
The main body of the work is expected to be completed by early spring, with further supported community action days planned to maintain momentum and ensure local people remain at the heart of the improvements.
“We are delighted to support our local community by helping to refresh and revitalise this important shared space. The transformation of Park Square has made it a brighter and more welcoming environment for residents to enjoy. The materials we provided have made a visible impact, with the new greenery from the raised beds bringing fresh life to the precinct.Michelle Smith, Social Value Manager at Travis Perkins Managed Services
“Through our conversations with the Council, it’s clear how committed the community is to maintaining this space, and we are proud to contribute to a project that will have a lasting, positive legacy for everyone in the area. I was also really pleased to see how engaged the local community and nearby residents were and how they came out in force to help improve the area. There was a real buzz about the day and a tangible feeling of a community coming together to improve their neighbourhood. Well done WNC for getting this project off the ground!”
