28 May 2026

West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) has joined more than 90 organisations across Northamptonshire in signing the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner’s Women’s Charter, reinforcing its commitment to improving safety for women in the workplace.
The Charter is Commissioner Danielle Stone’s call to action for organisations to show that they are working to make woman and girls safer.
Participating organisations receive guidance and support from crime prevention specialists within the Commissioner’s office, helping to enhance safety across their premises. They will also gain access to an exclusive Charter Toolkit, including tailored training packages designed to support safer working environments for women.
Both the Commissioner and the Council are committed to working together to support women to feel safer, with the Council also recently approving its countywide partnership-led strategy to tackling domestic abuse and sexual violence. The Commissioner is also committed to developing a countywide approach to halving violence against women and girls within the next decade.
Danielle recently visited the WNC offices at One Angel Square in Northampton to meet with leader Councillor Mark Arnull, presenting him with a certificate to mark the authority signing the Charter and to discuss how the two organisations will work together.
“We are proud to sign the Northamptonshire Women’s Charter and stand alongside partners across the county in making a clear commitment to improving the safety of women and girls.Cllr Mark Arnull, Leader of WNC
“This commitment is reinforced by our recently approved Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Strategy, which sets out a clear, partnership-led approach to preventing abuse, supporting victims and survivors, and holding perpetrators to account.
“Together, these actions reflect our ambition to create communities where abuse is neither tolerated nor hidden, and where everyone, particularly women and girls, can live free from fear and harm.”
“We need a shared grip on tackling issues like violence against women and girls.Danielle Stone
“So I am delighted that West Northamptonshire Council, one of the biggest employers of people in our county, has signed up to our Women’s Charter.
“Working together we need to do all we can to make women feel safer in the places where they work and live. I look forward to my Office working with the Council and helping to give them the tools they need to make all their premises across the county as safe and welcoming as they possibly can be.”
