Court order secured to tackle anti-social behaviour at Northampton property

A three-month Closure Order has been obtained on a Northampton property following persistent reports of anti-social behaviour, criminality, and drug-related activity. 

The Closure Order was granted at Northampton Magistrates' Court on 8 September 2026 for 25 Lawrence Court, Northampton. The action was taken by West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) in partnership with Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Partnership Homes (NPH).

The order prohibits anyone from entering the property and will remain in force until 11.59pm on 7 December 2026. The property has been secured and boarded up by NPH.

The address has been the subject of ongoing complaints since March 2026, with residents reporting frequent anti-social behaviour, excessive noise, suspected drug dealing and drug use, and large groups of people gathering at the property and in surrounding communal areas at all hours of the day and night.

Reports described persistent noise from shouting, arguments, fighting, and banging on doors and windows, alongside concerns about cannabis use, littering, alcohol-related disorder, and drug-related activity. Residents also reported incidents of people urinating and defecating in communal and outdoor areas, causing significant distress to those living nearby.

Many local residents told officers they had been regularly disturbed during the night and had become fearful of leaving their homes due to the behaviour associated with the address. Some reported being shouted at and subjected to abusive language when entering or leaving their properties.

Throughout the investigation, Northamptonshire Police attended the property on numerous occasions in response to reports of anti-social behaviour, criminal activity, and suspected drug dealing. Officers frequently found several individuals at the address, including people known to police for drug-related offences.

The Closure Order was sought to protect the local community and provide residents with respite from the ongoing disruption and fear caused by the activity linked to the property.

Cllr Charlie Hastie, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities at WNC, said: "This Closure Order demonstrates our commitment to taking robust action where anti-social behaviour is having a serious impact on local communities. The behaviour associated with this property caused significant distress to neighbouring residents over many months, affecting their quality of life and sense of safety in their own homes.

"By working closely with Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Partnership Homes, we have been able to secure this order and provide immediate relief for residents. We will continue to use the powers available to us to tackle anti-social behaviour and protect our communities."

“This Closure Order is a positive result for the local community and demonstrates the importance of police, partners and residents working together to tackle issues which cause harm and distress.
