Enhanced app launched to make everyday services easier

Residents across West Northamptonshire are being encouraged to download the Council’s newly revamped mobile app, which makes it quicker and simpler to access a wide range of local services.

The updated app has been redesigned with a clearer, more intuitive layout to improve people’s experience while using it. A new home screen gives residents faster access to the services they use most, helping them to find information and complete tasks with ease.

One of the standout additions is the new AI powered recycling scanner. This feature allows residents to check how to dispose of everyday items by simply scanning them with their phone. It provides instant guidance on whether an item can be recycled and the correct way to do so, supporting residents to reduce waste and recycle more effectively.

The app also introduces the ability to book recycling centre visits directly from a mobile device. This gives residents a convenient way to plan trips to their local centre, helping to manage demand and reduce waiting times.

In response to customer feedback, the app now supports dark mode, making it more comfortable to use in low light and helping to reduce eye strain.

Cllr Nigel Stansfield, Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Waste at West Northamptonshire Council, said: “We are committed to making it as easy as possible for residents to access our services and to do their bit for the environment.

“This latest update to our app is a major step forward. The new recycling scanner is a particularly exciting addition, giving people clear, instant advice at their fingertips and helping to boost recycling rates across West Northamptonshire.

“The improvements we have made are based on what our residents have told us they want. Whether it is booking a recycling centre visit, checking collection information or accessing other council services, the app provides a simple and convenient way to stay connected with us.”

The updated app is part of the Council’s wider commitment to improving digital services and making it easier for residents to engage with. From reminders about which bins to put out to reporting issues, checking information and managing bookings, the app offers a single, user-friendly platform for a wide range of everyday tasks.
