Foster carers across West Northamptonshire are being recognised for the life‑changing difference they make as part of Foster Care Fortnight, running from 11 to 22 May.

This year’s national theme, ‘This Is Fostering’, highlights the real experiences of foster carers, with Northamptonshire Children’s Trust (NCT) sharing powerful stories from local carers throughout the fortnight.

The stories explore what fostering means day‑to‑day – from providing stability and care during a child’s most difficult moments to celebrating milestones and building lasting relationships.

The campaign aims to raise awareness, challenge common misconceptions and encourage more people to consider fostering.

Foster carers play a vital role in supporting children and young people, offering safe, nurturing homes and consistency at times of uncertainty.

Colin Foster, Chief Executive of Northamptonshire Children’s Trust, said: “Foster carers play an extraordinary role in the lives of children and young people. Through Foster Care Fortnight, we want to celebrate their commitment, share their stories, and encourage our local community to support them in meaningful ways.”

Cllr Michael Stratton, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education at West Northamptonshire Council, added: “Foster carers make a life‑changing difference to children and young people every single day, providing stability, care and a sense of belonging when it is needed most. Foster Care Fortnight is an important opportunity to celebrate their dedication and to raise awareness of the vital role they play in our communities.

We are committed to supporting our foster carers and working closely with Northamptonshire Children’s Trust to ensure every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe and nurturing home. I would encourage anyone who has ever considered fostering to find out more and see how they could make a positive difference.”

One local foster carer, Emma, said: “Fostering means being there when it matters most. It’s challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.”

As part of this year’s campaign, NCT is also launching the Fostering Friendly Pledge, inviting local businesses to recognise and support foster carers in practical ways.

Businesses can take part by offering benefits such as discounts, wellbeing support or flexible services to help acknowledge the important role foster carers play in the community.

Businesses interested in signing up can attend the pledge launch event on 10 June to find out more.

People interested in becoming foster carers are also invited to a Fostering Information Evening on 20 May at the Old Savoy Theatre in Northampton, where they can speak to experienced carers and staff about the support available.
