Green space leased to Daventry Hill school
16 July 2026

West Northamptonshire Council’s Cabinet has given the green light to lease a section of land at Eastern Way Field to Daventry Hill School to improve its open space and increase the number of places for students.
The school, which is operated by Creating Tomorrow Academy Trust, delivers education to children aged between 4 and 18 with special educational needs.
At their meeting last night (Thursday, 16 July), Cabinet members agreed to lease a section of land to the school on a 125-year agreement to enable the creation of informal play space and a Multi-Use Games Area and increase the number of SEND places for West Northamptonshire students to 230.
The academy trust would have responsibility for any works to the site, which would be subject to normal planning processes and consents. A landlord break clause has been included which would allow the lease to be terminated should the school fail to offer the 230 places or if the land otherwise ceased to be used for educational purposes.
Cllr John Slope, West Northamptonshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources, said: “Leasing this piece of land will actively support the health and wellbeing of students attending Daventry Hill School as well as increasing the number of SEND places for students across West Northamptonshire, which is one of the council’s key priorities.
“Our teams will work with the school over the upcoming weeks and months to set-up the lease and ensure the successful transfer of the land.”
The Council will be formally consulting under Section 123(2A) of the Local Government Act 1972 on the ‘disposal’ of open space before taking a final decision. It will also work with Daventry Town Council on this issue.
