It’s time to apply for your child’s school place for September 2027

11 September 2026

Parents and carers of children living in West Northamptonshire can now apply for a reception place at a primary or infant school, a Year 3 place in a junior school, or a Year 7 place in a secondary school, for the September 2027 intake.

Parents and carers can apply for a place in reception if their child will be four years old on or before 31 August 2027. The closing date for applications for places in reception (and Year 3 at junior school) is midnight on Friday 15 January 2027. The closing date for applications for Year 7 places is midnight on Saturday 31 October 2026.

All applications, whether submitted online or by post, must be received by the relevant closing date to be considered on time. Late applications will not be processed until after National Offer Days and will be considered in subsequent allocation rounds.

All on-time applicants will receive an offer of a school place on National Offer Days. Applicants will then be provided with information on the next stage of the process.

There is a separate application process for children who have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan. Details can be found on the SEND admissions page.

Cllr Michael Stratton, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education at West Northamptonshire Council, said: "Choosing a school place for your child is an important step in their educational journey, whether they are starting Reception, moving to a junior school or beginning secondary school. Each stage brings new opportunities and experiences, and it is important to find the school that best meets your child's needs and supports them to thrive.

"I would encourage parents and carers to take the time to explore the information available on our website and submit their applications before the relevant deadline. We are committed to supporting families through the process and helping them make informed decisions about their child's education."

An independent admissions appeals process is available for families who wish to appeal against a decision not to offer a place  at any school for which they have applied.
