Libraries to help residents build digital confidence during Get Online Week 2026

Residents across West Northamptonshire are being encouraged to take advantage of free digital support sessions taking place in local libraries during Get Online Week 2026.

As more aspects of everyday life move online, digital skills are becoming increasingly important for accessing healthcare, managing finances, applying for jobs, staying connected with family and friends, and using public services. Between 20 to 27 October, libraries across West Northants will offer practical support to help residents build confidence online and make the most of digital technology.

A range of free activities will take place throughout the week, including Tea & Tech drop-ins, one-to-one digital support, NHS App guidance and digital skills workshops delivered in partnership with AbilityNet. Residents can receive help with using smartphones, tablets and computers, accessing online services safely, and developing the skills needed to navigate an increasingly digital world.

Support with the NHS App will be a key focus of the programme, helping residents create an account, manage appointments, request repeat prescriptions and access other digital health services with confidence.

The activities build on the year-round digital support available in libraries, which includes free access to computers and Wi-Fi, assistance with online council and health services, digital learning resources and personalised advice. They also complement the recently launched Live Longer Better Collection, which supports healthier, more active and connected lives.

Cllr Charlie Hastie, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities at WNC, said: "Digital skills are now an essential part of everyday life, but we know that many people can still find technology daunting.

“Our libraries provide welcoming, trusted spaces where residents can access free support, learn new skills and gain the confidence to use online services independently. I would encourage residents to visit their local library and get involved."
