New Youth Council and Youth Parliament Members announced for West Northamptonshire
18 May 2026

Young residents from across West Northamptonshire are taking an active role in shaping local services and decisions, with 20 young people aged 11 to 18 elected to the new Youth Council for 2026–2027, alongside newly announced Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs). Delivered in partnership with Clubs for Young People Northamptonshire, West Northamptonshire’s Youth Council will give young people a direct voice in influencing the issues that matter most to them.
The Youth Council plays an important role in ensuring young people’s views are heard on key topics including mental health and wellbeing, safety, education and access to opportunities.
The new term began on 1 April 2026, with members already taking part in induction activities and meeting regularly to set priorities, contribute to consultations and begin planning their own initiatives.
Over the coming year, Youth Councillors will take part in a range of projects and events including Youth Takeover Day, Cake and Debate, the Youth Awards, Youth Bank and the Young Inspectors programme. They will also work with Council teams on areas such as improving transport for young people and shaping half-term activities.
Alongside the Youth Council, three Members of Youth Parliament, Imogen, Chanel, and Laila, have also been elected to represent West Northamptonshire regionally and nationally. In their roles, they will take part in debates, campaign on key issues and represent local young people, including the opportunity to speak in the House of Commons as part of the UK Youth Parliament.
We are incredibly proud of the young people who have been elected to represent their peers across West Northamptonshire. The Youth Council and Members of Youth Parliament play a vital role in helping us understand what really matters to young people and ensuring their voices shape the services we provide. I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make over the coming year.Councillor Michael Stratton, Cabinet Member for Children, Families, and Education
