Resident fined after repeated loud music disturbances

A King’s Sutton resident has been ordered to pay £5,800 after repeatedly breaching a Noise Abatement Notice relating to excessive loud music. 

Between May and September 2025, Mr Oliver Page of Cherwell Banks, King’s Sutton, failed to comply with a Noise Abatement Notice served by West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.  

The Council first received complaints in January 2025 regarding excessive and intrusive loud music from the property. Officers investigated and initially sought to resolve the issue through the issuing of a Community Protection Warning. 

As the unreasonable noise continued, Statutory Nuisance was determined and a Noise Abatement Notice was served. Despite this formal action, further disturbances were reported. 

In July 2025, the Council obtained and executed a warrant at the property.   Several televisions and two speaker systems were seized in an attempt to prevent further disturbance to neighbours. However, new noise-amplifying equipment was acquired within 48 hours, and further breaches of the Noise Abatement Notice occurred. 

Monitoring of loud music continued, and evidence gathered between May 2025, and September 2025 demonstrated repeated non-compliance with the requirements of the Noise Abatement Notice. 

In January 2026, Mr Page was found guilty of 40 offences relating to breaches of the Noise Abatement Notice and was fined £2,000, ordered to pay £3,000 in costs and an £800 victim surcharge, totalling £5,800.

In this case, warnings and the formal notice were repeatedly breached, leaving the Council with no option but to pursue prosecution.
