Residents invited to help shape active travel improvements in Brackley

West Northamptonshire Council has just launched a consultation on proposals to make walking, wheeling and cycling safer and easier across the town.

Residents, businesses, schools and community groups are being invited to comment on a series of proposed active travel improvements designed to create safer, more accessible and better-connected routes across Brackley.

The consultation seeks feedback on proposals for Manor Road and Waynflete Avenue, Northampton Road and High Street, as well as ideas for future improvements along Halse Road. 

The proposals aim to support safer journeys to school, improve accessibility for people walking, wheeling and cycling, and encourage healthier and more sustainable travel choices. They also seek to enhance connections between residential areas, schools, local facilities and Brackley town centre.

The consultation includes proposals for new and enhanced crossing points, wider footpaths, improved accessibility measures such as dropped kerbs and tactile paving, and a shared footpath and cycleway linking the town centre with the area around Sainsbury's.

Proposed one-way arrangements on Manor Road and Waynflete Avenue are also being considered to create additional space for people walking and wheeling.

Paper copies of the consultation materials will also be available from Brackley Library.

Richard Butler, West Northamptonshire Council's Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: "We want to make it easier and safer for people to travel around Brackley without hopping behind the wheel of a car.

“This is particularly for short, everyday journeys such as travelling to school, work, local services and the town centre.

"Brackley continues to grow, and it’s important that the town's transport network provides safe and attractive travel options for everyone.

“These are ideas at this stage, not final decisions, and community feedback will play a key role in shaping what happens next.

"I'd encourage everyone to take a few minutes to look at the proposals and complete the survey. The more feedback we receive, the better we'll be able to understand what matters most to local people."

The consultation forms part of the Council's commitment to improving active travel opportunities and supporting the objectives of the Local Transport Plan and Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan.

Feedback received during the consultation will help inform the next stage of the project and the future development of the proposals.
