Temporary parking changes affecting St John’s Square, Daventry will now take place from October

A section of Daventry’s St John’s Square car park will now temporarily close from October to accommodate building work at the town’s nearby leisure centre.

The temporary closure, which had been due to start in late August, will now take place from Monday 19 October and run until early June 2027. 

Access arrangements to the car park, which is located behind The Abbey Centre and Moot Hall, will also be changed for motorists and pedestrians so that construction materials and contractor cabins can be sited near to the centre. Advance signage will be posted from Friday 2 October.

The works will affect about 28 of the 62 parking spaces available, and during this time access and egress to St John’s Square car park will be via Chapel Lane only, except to pedestrians visiting The Abbey. Abbey Street will remain open as normal.

Town centre visitors will still be able to use other sections of St John’s Square car park along with over 800 other free spaces available nearby across the town centre parking areas. Cllr Richard Butler, West Northamptonshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “These important works have been pushed back due to a delay signing one of the agreements. 

“We recognise these temporary access and parking changes will cause some inconvenience and would like to thank people in advance for their patience and understanding during this period.”
