Due to significant demand, the West Northamptonshire Warm Homes Local Grant Scheme is now closed for 2026/27 as the annual allocation has been reached.

The Warm Homes Local Grant Scheme is a three-year Government programme that provides each local authority with an annual allocation that can be made available to eligible residents to enable them to make their homes more energy efficient.

As West Northamptonshire Council has now allocated all its Year 2 funding, no more grants can be offered this financial year.

WNC has a budget in place for Year 3 of the Warm Homes Grant Scheme project, which is due to commence on 1 April 2027.

Any applications received during the 2026/27 window will continue to be processed and eligible applications will be added to a waiting list and residents will be contacted after 1 April 2027 once the new funding is in place. Applications will be processed and added to the waiting list in order of receipt.

Local residents who have a household income of £36,000 a year or less or there is someone within the household receiving certain benefits are eligible to apply to the Warm Homes Local Grant Scheme.

Applications can either be made directly from the household if they own their home or by the landlord for those who are eligible for the scheme but rent their homes. Those who are successful in their applications could receive improvement works such as:

•    wall, loft and underfloor insulation
•    air source heat pumps
•    smart controls
•    solar panels

Cllr Nigel Stansfield, Cabinet Member for Environment, Recycling and Waste said: “It’s great news that we have been able to assist so many local residents with making improvements to their homes so they are now more energy efficient, but this demand does mean we have allocated all the available funding for Year 2 and are unable to fund any further improvement works.

“Funding is in place for Year 3, which is the final year of the programme, so I would encourage anyone who is eligible and interested in the scheme to apply early. Even though we cannot fund any improvements until the new allocation is in place on 1 April, all applications will continue to be processed, and successful applications will be held on a waiting list.”

Local residents can find out more about the scheme and how to apply on the Energy Efficiency Funding page.
