Website user research privacy notice

This privacy notice outlines some changes to the way North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire Councils research collection.

The newly formed Councils have been working alongside FutureGov, the web service design agency, to develop two new unitary websites. Now those sites have been live for a few months we would like to gather public feedback on accessibility and usability to improve web content and ensure customers can get to the services they need.

This privacy notice advises users completing the research survey how their data will be collected, used and held. 

1. Data controllers

The joint web team at North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire Councils will act as the joint data controllers for the personal information you provide in this survey.

2. Information we collect through our website research group

2.1 Research is an important part of our work as it helps us understand people’s needs and build better content and improve web services. With your consent we may get in contact to invite you to participate in website research activities and 1-2-1 sessions with a member of the research team, this may include a screen sharing exercise to discuss the unitary websites development and content ideas.

We will not collect any personal data from you that we do not need.

3 What data we collect

3.1 We collect the following information from participants:

  • Name
  • Details about parental or career responsibility
  • Information regarding disability eg visual impairment
  • Preferred contact details either telephone number or email address
  • Other information you provide to us in the course of providing feedback
  • Consent

We will collect personal information for research purposes only.

4 Why do we collect this data?

4.1 We collect participant information to identify participants and with your consent we may arrange follow-ups sessions to discuss the task in more detail.

5 How we keep your information safe

5.1 Your information is securely stored on the council’s systems. Access is only provided to authorised staff.

5.2 We will securely dispose of your information in line with the council's retention schedules.

6 Who do we share your data with?

6.1 The data you provide to us is only shared between North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire Council. No other third parties have access to your information unless the law expressly allows them to.

7 How long do we keep your data?

7.1 We will keep your personal information (name, contact details) for 12 months from the last point you contact us, after which time it will be securely destroyed. You can ask for your personal information to be erased at any point.

8 Opt-out of collection

8.1 Participants are able to withdraw their information from our website research group. To do this, contact [email protected]

10 Changes to this privacy notice

9.1 Privacy notices are live documents, which will be updated or revised in line with legislation.
