Future ways of working

Agile working

We are committed to providing equal opportunity for all. We recognise that offering agile and flexible working arrangements can help to increase the diversity of our workforce. It can also improve work life balance for staff, while ensuring our services deliver against our 6 corporate priorities.

We give staff greater choice and flexibility in when they work by providing the opportunity to change work patterns. This can be done by applying for agile and flexible working arrangements, including part time, job share, term time only, annualised hours and flexi time.

We appreciate that across our organisation, our colleagues work in a wide range of ways and locations.

Worker types

Our West Ways of Working programme acknowledges the diversity of working types and encourages our employees to develop a working pattern that properly suits their job role.

We have identified 4 worker types:

Fixed Worker

As a Fixed Worker, you will work from a specific location, whether this be because you work with the public, or with specialist equipment.

These job roles include:

  • Receptionist
  • Care Worker
  • Library Assistant

Part Flexible Worker

Part Flexible Workers work from a specific location but can work from other locations of their choosing for up to 3 days a week. This could include working from a library, café, or from home.

These job roles include:

  • Accountant
  • Assessment and Enablement Worker
  • Brokerage Officer
  • EHC Officer
  • Executive Support
  • HR Advisor/Business Partner
  • Payroll Officer
  • Pensions Officer
  • Social Worker
  • Support Analyst

Flexible Worker

Flexible Workers work remote for most of the week (3 days plus). As a Flexible Worker, you will have a strong reliance on IT and virtual tools, and you will come into the office for meetings.

These job roles include:

  • Business Analyst
  • Project Manager
  • Systems Design and Implementation Officer
  • Web Designer

Operational Field-Based Worker

As an Operational Field-Based Worker, it is rare for your job role to include working at a computer. Because of this, where you work will depend on your job’s specific requirements.

These job roles include:

  • Community Support Worker
  • Domestic Assistant
  • Driver
  • Educational Psychologist
  • Occupational Therapist
