What to put in your garden waste bin

You can put in:

  • cut flowers
  • grass cuttings
  • hedge trimmings
  • leaves and twigs
  • pet straw
  • small branches
  • untreated sawdust
  • weeds
  • wood shavings

What not to put in your garden waste bin

Please don't put in:

  • bricks, rubble and soil
  • large tree branches or trunks
  • cardboard and paper
  • cat or dog waste
  • fats and oils
  • food
  • flower pots
  • plastic bags
  • any plastic item
  • textiles
  • metals and glass
  • other wooden items

Bins that have the wrong items or are too heavy to lift onto the waste vehicle will not be collected.

What happens to your garden waste

Your garden waste is recycled outside using a process called Open Windrows and the end product is sent to local farmers.
