Northampton Central Library refurbishments
Northampton Central Library is being improved to bring different services together in one place and make the building more modern and easier to use.
This work will help keep this historic listed building open for the future, while making it a more welcoming and accessible space for everyone.
It is expected to be completed by spring 2027.
The library will remain open throughout the works, and services will continue.

- a new themed children’s library area

- improved public toilets
- new flooring and redecoration in key areas
- refurbishment of the Carnegie Room
- new and improved office spaces
- an additional accessible staff room
- a new evacuation lift to improve accessibility

A new Family Hub will be created within Northampton Central Library, allowing families to:
- get help from different services in one place

What to expect during the works
We are working to keep disruption to a minimum while the improvements take place.
The library will remain open throughout, while works will be phased to keep services running.
Some areas may temporarily move or change access routes. Clear signage will guide you around the building while the improvement works are taking place.
Lift access
The lift is expected to be out of service for approximately 6 to 8 weeks during the project. We will provide clearer timescales when we can, and support customers in need of extra assistance.
