Help shape the future of SEND support in West Northamptonshire
Children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)07 October 2026

Parents, carers, professionals, children and young people are being invited to have their say on a new draft strategy that will help shape Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) support across West Northamptonshire over the next three years.
West Northamptonshire Council and its partners have launched a public consultation on the Draft SEND and Inclusion Strategy 2027-2030 and are encouraging as many people as possible to take part.
The strategy has been developed through extensive engagement with families, young people, education, health and social care professionals, alongside wider co-production activities. Feedback gathered through surveys, focus groups and community conversations has helped identify the issues that matter most to local people.
It sets out a shared vision for children and young people with SEND to receive the right support, in the right place, at the right time, enabling them to thrive in their communities. The strategy is built around six key priorities:
- Voice, information and trust
- Earlier help and inclusion
- Joined-up specialist support
- Local sufficiency and stability
- Transitions and preparation for adulthood
- Whole-family wellbeing
The consultation gives residents, families, young people and professionals the opportunity to comment on the proposed priorities and ambitions before the strategy is finalised. Feedback will help ensure the final document reflects local experiences and focuses on the areas that will make the greatest difference.
Councillor Michael Stratton, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education at West Northamptonshire Council, said: "We want children and young people with SEND, and the people who support them, to help shape our future plans. This survey is an opportunity to tell us what matters most and help ensure services meet the needs of local families. I encourage everyone with an interest in SEND to take part and share their views."
The consultation is open for two weeks until midnight Wednesday 21 October. People can read the draft strategy and complete the survey via the consultations section of the website.
Alternative formats and support are available for anyone who may need help taking part.
