Thousands of children secure primary school places across West Northamptonshire
16 April 2026

Families across West Northamptonshire are finding out which primary school they will attend this September, as National Offer Day marks an important milestone in their education journey.
For many parents and carers, today brings reassurance and clarity, with the majority of families offered a place at one of their preferred schools, supporting children to take their next steps into early learning within their local communities.
4,431 reception places at primary school have been allocated to pupils across West Northamptonshire today (16 April). This year, 94.7 per cent of applicants secured a place at their first preference school, compared to 94.6 per cent last year. Overall, 99.45 per cent of families were offered a place at one of their preferred schools, up from 99.1 per cent last year.
Parents and carers who applied for their primary school place online will receive their email offer today (16 April). For those who were not successful in gaining a place at their preferred school, parents have the right to appeal through the independent admissions appeals process, with clear information available on next steps and timescales. More information is available on the website here.
Additionally, 196 places at junior school (Year 3) have been allocated for those children attending an infant school. 100% of pupils secured a place at their first preference junior school, up from 96.9 per cent last year.
The next round of primary school place allocations for late applicants will take place in May.
“National Offer Day is an important milestone for families, and I’m pleased that the vast majority have received an offer at one of their preferred schools. We understand that this can be an anxious time, particularly for those who may not have received their first preference, and I want to reassure parents and carers that our admissions team is on hand to provide guidance and support. West Northamptonshire Council remains committed to making sure every child has access to a good-quality education and the best possible start to their school journey.”Cllr Michael Stratton, Cabinet Member for children, families and education at West Northamptonshire Council
