Subscription packages and pricing

No matter the size of your school, we can provide you with up to date learning materials to support all areas of your curriculum and to support reading for pleasure inside and out of the classroom.

Subscriptions are annual, running for a financial year April to March. If you can't commit to an annual subscription, you can borrow from us on an ad-hoc basis, selecting from our 'tailor made' service menu.

Subscriptions for 2023 to 2024

We offer different subscriptions to suit your school budget.

We offer a great value for money subscription, ideal for playgroups, nurseries or preschools run on a voluntary or independent basis, nurseries within schools or the reception year of infant or primary schools.

Target audience

What you receive

Every 12 week term you will receive:

  • 1 book collection, containing 35 items including board books, picture books, wordless stories and seasonal non-fiction
  • 1 themed book collection that supports the 7 strands of the EYFS, containing 25 items that may include books (fiction and non-fiction), games, photo packs and activity sheets.*
  • 1 story sack which includes books, soft toy(s), a game or activity

*EAL collections are also available. Contact us to let us know what languages you require and we will put together a collection that suits yours and your children’s needs.

Selections

Book collections can either be selected by the setting prior to each term from the advertised list or be selected by us on a rotational basis so you don’t get the same ones every term.

Delivery

We will deliver the collections at the beginning of every school term.

Price

£111 per year (£37 per term) plus VAT (if applicable) to be invoiced in October for the full year price or alternatively in May, October and January for the termly price.

Value

Average price of each book £4.99 x 180 = £898.20 if you purchased these for your setting new.

Average price of a story sack £95 x 3 = £285 if you purchased your own.

Target audience

Our bronze subscription package is suitable for small primary, infant and junior schools who want to boost their own school book stock and only require up to 5 project boxes a term. It can also be tailored to special schools and alternative provisions. We can cater for schools following the National Curriculum as well as alternative curriculums such as Cornerstones or Edison.

We work on a 6 term year. Each term corresponds to a school half term.

What you receive

Your subscription includes:

  • 100 books on long term loan to the school, to boost your school library or classroom reading corners
  • The ability to exchange up to 50 of your long term loan throughout the year, either selected by our staff to school requirements or by school staff visiting our showroom and selecting personally. You can bring up to 4 pupils with you to help you make selections (COVID restrictions permitting)
  • 5 curriculum support project boxes or literacy collection boxes per term or a mix of both
  • 1 story sack per term
  • Discount of up to 25% on the cover price when purchasing your own books via our Purchase Scheme with Peters Booksellers
  • Library advisory visit (on request)
  • Telephone and email support

Schools will be sent order forms and lists of available project boxes and story sacks in advance of each term.

We will deliver within 6 open school days of the beginning of each term or at the end of the preceding term if possible. Please check our 2023 to 2024 delivery schedule for dates.

Silver subscription

Target audience

Our silver subscription package is suitable for primary, infant and junior schools of any size who want to boost their own school book stock, or smaller schools who only require up to 10 project boxes a term. It can also be tailored to special schools and alternative provisions. We can cater for schools following the National Curriculum as well as alternative curriculums such as Cornerstones or Edison.

We work on a 6 term year. Each term corresponds to a school half term.

What you receive

Your subscription includes:

  • 300 books on long term loan to the school, to boost your school library or classroom reading corners
  • The ability to exchange up to 150 of your long term loan throughout the year, either selected by our staff to school requirements or by school staff visiting our showroom and selecting personally. You can bring up to 4 pupils with you to help you make selections (COVID restrictions permitting)
  • 10 curriculum support project boxes or literacy collection boxes per term or a mix of both
  • 1 story sack per term
  • Discount of up to 25% on the cover price when purchasing your own books via our Purchase Scheme with Peters Booksellers
  • Library advisory visit (on request)
  • Telephone and email support

Gold subscription

Target audience

Our full subscription is suitable for primary, infant and junior schools of any size who really want to bolster their own book stock and curriculum provision and have access to specialist online and physical resources, and larger schools who can take advantage of the larger number of curriculum support project boxes. It can be tailored to special schools and alternative provisions. We can cater for schools following the National Curriculum as well as alternative curriculums such as Cornerstones or Edison.

We work on a 6 term year. Each term corresponds to a school half term.

What you receive

Your subscription includes:

  • 1000 books on long term loan to the school, to boost your school library or classroom reading corners
  • The ability to exchange up to 50% of your long term loan books across the year, up to a maximum of 500 books, either selected by LRE staff to school requirements or by school staff visiting the LRE showroom and selecting personally. You can also bring up to 4 pupils with you to help you make selections
  • 20 curriculum support project boxes or literacy collection boxes per term or a mix of both (increasing to 25 per term for schools with 350 or more pupils)
  • 2 story sacks per term
  • 2 artefact collections per term
  • 3 group reader collections per term
  • Full school access to Fiction Express online platform
  • Discount of up to 25% on the cover price when purchasing your own books via our Purchase Scheme with Peters Booksellers
  • Library advisory visit (on request)

About your subscriptions

Books

LRE stock a wide range of children’s and young adult fiction, including graphic novels, manga, new releases and classic titles. We also have a range of non-fiction reading for pleasure titles on contemporary issues and subjects like health and wellbeing, LGBT+ issues, sustainability and diversity.

Your books stock can be made up of any proportion of fiction and non-fiction you require, subject to LRE stock availability.

You also get to exchange up to 25% of the books you have from us each year, meaning you can swap them for different titles, return well-worn books and keep your shelves up to date (LRE is unable to supply KS3/4/5 curriculum specific non-fiction or study guides).

Fiction Express

Fiction Express is an innovative book platform that connects students with professional authors, encouraging reading for pleasure through fun co-creation of stories. Every half-term, 3 books are published on the Fiction Express website in weekly chapters.

What happens next is entirely up to the readers. Using their votes, they are able to decide where the plot goes next. Then the author will bring the most popular choice to life. Suitable for KS3 students and students with a lower reading age. Included in silver and gold level secondary subscriptions. Normal price £550 per year.

Carnegie and Kate Greenaway shortlist

The Carnegie and Kate Greenaway awards are the oldest children’s and young person’s book award. Each year in March a shortlist of 8 titles is announced for each. Your school will receive one set of each shortlist ready for your students to enjoy the books - you could even run a shadowing group where students get to vote for their favourite. Included in all secondary level subscriptions. 

Online author events

In spring and summer term LRE will host an online author event for subscribing schools with a popular YA author. 2 events per year is included in Gold level subscriptions. Usual price for non-Gold level subscribing schools will be £45 per event.

Stock editing / reorganisation / library help visit from LRE staff

Don’t have enough hours in the day to sort and tidy your library? Need help rearranging the shelves? Books need re-labelling? Need help adding stock to the library catalogue? Let us help!

LRE staff will come to your school library and assist you to delete old or out of date books, re-label and / or rearrange your library. One visit per school year is included in all secondary level subscriptions. Usual price is £75 for a half day, £125 for a full day.

Peters bookseller trips

Peters is one of the biggest specialist children’s booksellers in the country, with its brilliant showroom based in Birmingham. LRE organises trips to the showroom for school librarians and staff to select their own books to purchase at a discount of up to 26% off cover price, which will be processed by Peters and delivered to your school.

Transport to and from the showroom from LRE in Northampton and lunch is included. 2 visits per year is included in all secondary level subscriptions. Normal price for a trip is £30.

Schools can also purchase books online with Peters at a discounted rate through LRE. 

Network meetings and newsletters

All schools are invited to our termly network meetings for secondary librarians. They also receive 6 LRE newsletters per year.

Price

All prices plus VAT per year, September to August

All prices subject to VAT. Schools will be invoiced twice in the academic year in autumn term for 7/12 of the price then summer term for the remaining 5/12 of the price.

How to subscribe

Just email [email protected] stating which level of subscription you would like or call us on 01604 362964 to discuss your options. Schools can also subscribe part way during a school year and will be charged pro-rata for the duration of their subscription.

Once your subscription is confirmed we will discuss your book requirements and get your first delivery of books to you as soon as possible - either by LRE staff selecting stock on your behalf, or school staff visiting our showroom and browsing our shelves.

Your number of books will be built up over the first 2 terms in increments. For example if you have 1000 books, your first delivery would be of approximately 300 books, then another 2 deliveries to make you up to 1000. If applicable, we will also set you up with your Fiction Express logins. Carnegie and Kate Greenaway collections will be delivered to the school at the end of March.

Schools will be notified by email of upcoming Peters trips and author events, and about the termly opportunities to exchange stock.

We can support those choosing to home school. Whether you would like to borrow an artefact box on Romans, or a curriculum project box to support learning about forces and magnetism, we have lots to choose from on our 'tailor made' service menu that provide great value for money compared to purchasing your own resources.

If you don’t need a full subscription, you can still make use of the great value we offer by selecting only the services you need from our tailor made service menu. Tailor made services are subject to a £10 delivery and collection charges. Delivery and Collection Charge

£15 per delivery/collection, to a maximum of £45 in a year.
