Well Northants

The Well Northants programme is all about supporting those who are the most vulnerable, by putting community involvement, engagement and feedback at the centre of decisions to address health inequalities. We work together with you to better understand the area you live in, what your challenges are and what improvements are needed so together, we can make a difference to the community and help people live their best life.

The aim of Well Northants it to bring people together, to empower communities to become more resilient and connected which we know, can make a huge difference to a person’s wellbeing. Together, we want to:

  • build resilience within local communities so you are empowered to take action together on health and the social determinants of health
  • reduce the health inequalities faced by those who are most disadvantaged or excluded

Where we work

We work in areas in both Northampton and Daventry. These include:

  • Northampton: Kings Heath, St David’s (Kingsthorpe), Blackthorn, Semilong and Briar Hill
  • Daventry: Southbrook

We have a community development worker who works closely with each of the communities listed above. As well as this, we also have a community development worker that works with specific communities who experience significant health inequalities such as; Sex Workers and Gypsy, Romany, Traveller communities.

We also have a Project Officer researching the health and wellbeing needs and support engagement with the Eastern European communities based across the West Northamptonshire Council area.

The story so far

The Well Northants team delivered a number of engagement events in 2022/3 in Kings Heath, St David’s (Kingsthorpe) Blackthorn, and Southbrook. The events included doorstep conversations throughout the area, street conversations and discussions with people attending activities in the community incorporating family fun days and world café events.

We asked, "What would a healthier community look like?”. From this work, priorities and actions have been identified in each community; these have been drawn up into a local action plan which will be worked on together with residents.

Community grants have been made available for projects that meet locally identified projects, so far over 30 project have been supported. A wide range of different projects have been supported ranging from
wellbeing support groups to tree planting and youth activities.
