Electric vehicle charging for residents without off‑street parking
The government is helping councils install on‑street electric vehicle chargepoints through the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund.
It focuses on installing reliable, low‑power, on‑street chargepoints and increasing private‑sector investment in local charging networks. These chargers make it easier for people without driveways or garages to charge their electric vehicles near home.
West Northamptonshire Council is developing its own plans under the LEVI fund to expand public charging across the area and improve access for residents without off‑street parking.

Alternative ways to charge
If you are not able to install a home chargepoint, there are services available that allow residents to share or rent EV chargers within their community.
These schemes can offer practical solutions in areas where off-street parking is limited.
Examples of available services include:
- Zap-Home - Allows EV owners to offer their chargers for others to use
- Co Charger - Connects drivers with nearby private chargers
- Place2Park - Offers EV charging access through community-based parking spaces
Existing charge points can be found on Zap Map.
