Sustainability in your community

Northamptonshire Acre offers support and guidance in making your community a greener and more sustainable one. Their rural officer can carry out a green assessment and assist you in developing projects or improve what is currently in place.

For specifically eco-friendly volunteering, the Climate Action West Northamptonshire group (CA-WN) is run by resident volunteers to take action in reducing greenhouse gases.

Ways you can help create a more sustainable future in your local community:

Visit Community Action Northants for volunteering opportunities in your community

If you are finding you have stocked the cupboards too full, you can always donate any surplus food to your local food banks and food pantries/larders

The council will provide your group with litter picking equipment and will pick up the sacks once you are done

Terracycle enables you and others to recycle otherwise difficult objects. You can also use our Bulky waste service for larger household items

Find out more on what our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) can accept and visit our Reuse page for tips on giving life to old furniture, clothes and more

The market square has plastic free and fresh produce, you can also use our WNC app to find nearby restaurants - You can download the app for free through Google Play or the Apple Store

You can find local eco-friendly businesses through the Northants Life news site

The Green Patch community garden has corporate and school visits as well as workshops the local and wider community can participate in.

The Northampton community garden is made up of 7 acres of land which you can pay an annual fee for a plot of land.
