Private hire operator licence

A private hire operators licence is required to enable a person to accept or invite bookings for private hire vehicles. All private hire vehicles must operate through a private hire operator licence.

Details required:

  • "Fit and Proper" Test
  • a completed application form and supporting documents
  • a list of vehicles that operate under this permission

Supporting documents

  • DBS - a basic DBS for all individuals listed on the application - if the individual is a current Hackney Carriage or Private Hire driver licensed by West Northamptonshire and has the online update service for their enhanced DBS then a basic DBS is not required
  • proof of identity – a passport or driving licence photocard for all applicants listed
  • proof of national insurance number for all applicants listed
  • proof of address such as bank statement or utility bills, less than 3 months old or Council Tax statement less than 12 months old for all applicants listed
  • proof of right to work in the UK for all applicants listed - either U.K. passport or birth certificate or for nationals of other countries a home office right to work check code for all applicants listed
  • proof of national insurance number for all applicants listed
  • proof that you are registered with HMRC to pay tax. You can generate your code through the GOV.UK website. We can not issue your licence until we have been able to confirm you are registered to pay tax. Every individual listed on the licence must supply a code
  • vehicle details including V5 and insurance for every vehicle to be linked to the licence - to be emailed separately
  • public liability insurance where applicable
