Household Support Fund

The Household Support Fund initially provided financial support to households struggling with the cost of living over the winter period in 2021.

New extended grant scheme – Summer 2022

The government recently announced an extension of the scheme supporting vulnerable households, including pensioners and those with children.

West Northamptonshire Council will distribute £2,599,628 from the Department for Work and Pensions to support the most vulnerable households and individuals.

The allocation of the funding will be as follows:

School meal vouchers

£20 per week Food Vouchers to go to 10,530 children, the intention being to cover the holiday period for children on school meals.

School meal payments are expected to be made direct to parents via the schools a couple of weeks before the start of the holidays.

School Vouchers will be sent to those eligible through the existing free school meals system. These will be distributed by schools before the end of the Summer term in time for use in the holidays.

Which shops can I spend my food vouchers in?

Food Vouchers can be redeemed at Asda, Aldi, Iceland, Marks and Spencer, McCall's, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Waitrose.

Do I have to spend the food voucher all at once?

No, you can spend it smaller amounts, the amount you spend will be taken from the entire voucher.

Do I have to spend it in one supermarket?

Yes, once you have chosen a supermarket to redeem your voucher at you need to spend it at that one brand of supermarket, you can use a different branch but if you have chosen Tesco then you can only spend your voucher at Tesco.

How do I redeem my voucher?

Treat your card voucher as if it were cash. Do not take a picture of it and put it on social media or someone else may use your voucher.

Step 1: Before you shop, you will need to activate your supermarket voucher. To get started, go to the voucher link you have been sent in your web browser. You can do this on a smartphone, tablet, or computer.

Step 2: Click through to choose your supermarket by clicking 'Tell me more' and then 'I'm ready to claim'.

Step 3: Select which supermarket you'd like to shop at. This cannot be undone, so make sure you're happy with your choice before pressing the 'Claim now' button.

Step 4: Hit 'Click for your voucher' to reveal the voucher for your chosen supermarket. You can show your voucher to the supermarket from your phone, or print your voucher before shopping

I don’t have a smartphone or a printer - how can I use my voucher?

If you have queries with your school meal voucher, speak to your school.
